For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God;
Hebrews 7:19 (NLT

The purpose of the priesthood was to remove the barrier of sin which kept man from God, and make a way of admission for man to God. To accomplish this, the priest would offer sacrifices and prayers for the people. These rituals were the only hope that Israel had to make them right with God. As complex as these rituals were they still had room for improvement. The Hebrews writer questioned the incapability of the system of hope with use of the word perfection. Perfection as used within the writer’s thought may best be translated complete. The priesthood was not able to attain completeness because the Levitical sacrifice and priesthood could not actually provide a salvation for sinful man that was not adequate. This system only made man aware that there was need for a better hope.

The writer informs us that “we have confidence in a better hope”. This hope is due to the fact that another kind of priest is interceding for us to the Father. He meets the need to fulfill the purpose of the priesthood; that is to remove the barrier of sin and make a way of admission for man to God. By Him sacrificing His life on Calvary He has accomplished both with one act. There He took on our sins and for the first time since the divorce of God and man due to sin, we were allow access to the Father.

This better hope can only be in Jesus. He will not only guarantee complete salvation, He will also guarantee life and more of it. Everything else will always prove to be incomplete. He will bring closure to any and all areas of our lives. The more that we recognize Him as the finisher of all things, the more that we would need testify that He is the Better Hope.

As we face the many dilemmas of life; not knowing what to expect on tomorrow, we must keep before us that God has provided for us a Better Hope that will be forever. Then we should be able to sing with the hymn writer this hymn.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name.

On Christ the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand

THANK GOD! AMEN!
Thank God for The Better Hope

Spiritual Moments
My niece Vontella constantly asked, “Why?” That was her favorite question and her answer to the explanations of adults was, “Okay.” Maybe we should pause and ask why and accept the answers as freely as Von did when she was two years old. I don’t think she understood their answers, instead I think she understood how to respond to them

Let’s think of a few times when we ask, “Why” and receive few answers:

WHY…
  • Do people hate each other for such trivial reasons?
  • Are we so particular about other people’s reasons for everything they do, but keep ours to ourselves?
  • Do other people’s children seem better than our children? Mmm, maybe our children have the wrong parents.
  • Will cigarette smoking kill your grandchild, but not you?
  • Does someone else’s business demand more of my attention than my own?
  • Do I want someone else’s house and not my own, although I say that I am blessed to have this one?
  • Are your friends always smarter than you are and why do they say the same thing about you?
  • Do you reject opportunities for advancement when you see others thrilled to exercise the ones they have?
  • Can’t you believe that God, who has always helped you wants to continue to be of help to you?
  • Do you feel that you must reinvent a wheel that is already rolling?
